Nothing is more heartbreaking that a hurt baby in hospital. But it isn’t always the parent’s fault!

Shaken Baby Syndrome. Just those three little words cause horror and heartbreak. Which is completely understandable. After all, It’s an undeniable tragedy when it happens. But does it really happen as often as people think? Read the news and it would be easy to believe that almost a quarter of the population cannot bear the sound of a crying baby! So much so, that they feel compelled to use violence to silence the infant. But is SBS really as prevalent as prosecutors would have us believe?

Since 2001, when the first hairline cracks began to appear in that shiny facade that SBS promoters present to jurors during trial, a growing number of people have begun to question the status quo. Doctors and scientists who now believe that slapping the SBS label on every baby with certain symptoms invites tragedy, and destroys lives. And they’re right!

In the intervening years, more than two hundred Shaken Baby Syndrome cases have caved in under the weight of undeniable facts. 16 convictions have been overturned, but many others have not even made it to trial. Some fall apart when the defense is able to prove to the jury that there are other plausible explanations for a baby’s death beyond violent abuse. Some simply don’t have enough evidence to convince a Judge that a trial is even worth the time.

Unfortunately, many of the parents and caregivers who have been falsely convicted in the past cannot afford to get out. Literally, they don’t have money to hire the attorneys and medical experts needed to undermine the faulty science that put them behind bars in the first place! It’s a tragedy, when you think about it, how many lives have been destroyed because the prosecution has not, and will not, update their science.

SBS allegations have put hundreds of innocent parents behind bars!

While killing a child is a horrific crime, and we will be the first to admit it, sending innocent people to prison for crimes they didn’t commit is equally terrible! And yet it happens all the time. Thankfully, however, that does seem to be changing. Slowly, yes, much more slowly that we would like, but it is happening. More and more people are beginning to realize the truth. Realize that while all pennies are certainly coins, not all coins are pennies.

And we’re thrilled about it! After all, we’ve sat across from a great many terrified and heartbroken parents in our office over the years, falsely accused of horrific crimes against their own children. Accusations of crimes that they didn’t and couldn’t have committed. Accusations that can so easily be disproved, if only someone is willing to look beyond the immediate assumptions.

This is what we do. We look beyond the first impression that the evidence leaves, beyond the immediate assumption of trauma, and find the alternative scenarios. The less noticeable evidence. The hidden truths.
