Police records show that 32-year-old Jennifer Wigren has been accused of sexually assaulting her 4-year-old son. Wigren is a mother of two from Shelby Township in Oceana County.

The incident came to light when Wigren’s husband discovered pictures of his wife and 4-year-old son on her phone. The pictures were apparently sexual in nature. Wigren and her husband had an altercation after he confronted her about the pictures.

The Oceana County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic assault call at the Wigren’s address, where Jennifer told officers that her husband had assaulted her. Further investigation into the matter revealed that the alleged domestic assault situation had arisen as a result of the possible sexual abuse of their son. Officers arrested both the Wigrens. Jennifer was arrested for sexually abusing her son, while her husband was arrested for assaulting her.

According to Oceana County sheriff’s Lt. Craig Mast, police have discovered that the images in question were sent to an acquaintance of Jennifer Wigren’s who lives in Colorado. Due to the sexual nature of the images, and the fact that they involve a child, Oceana County Sheriff’s deputies are working with law enforcement in Colorado to discover who the images were sent to.

After the investigation was completed, the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, with recommendations that Jennifer Wigren be charged with multiple felonies. Police requested charges for both criminal sexual conduct and producing child pornography.

Jennifer Wigren was subsequently charged with Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, which is a felony punishable by up to fifteen years in prison and a lifetime of electronic monitoring. The Oceana County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet decided on the charge of producing child pornography, and is continuing the investigation into these allegations.

The 4-year-old and another, older child have both since been removed from the home. Wigren is being held in the Oceana County Jail. With regards to the domestic assault allegations,  Jennifer Wigran later recanted her claim that her husband had assaulted her. The domestic assault charge against him has since been dropped.

Under Michigan law, a charge of Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct refers to allegations of illegal and aggravated sexual contact against another individual. It does not involve penetration of the victim, but rather, refers to the intentional touching of the victim’s intimate parts.
