The death of a baby is a tragedy. But when the infant is found to have sustained head wounds before passing away, it is only natural for authorities to wonder if there is perhaps more to the story. In this case, it has resulted in a teenaged father being charged with abuse and murder.

 
According to police records, deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office were called to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak recently by CPS investigators who had been alerted to a possible abuse situation. The case involved a baby, a little boy named Adien who was only 7-months-old, who had sustained severe head injuries.

 
The father of the child, 18-year- old Damon Honer of Pontiac, claims that the injuries were the result of his having accidentally hit the baby’s head on a railing at the home he shared with the child and the baby’s mother, who is 16. The mother was apparently asleep at the time of the accident and therefore did not witness the incident.

 
But just a few days later, little Adien died. What was an investigation into possible child abuse took a very different turn. Due to the fact that the baby’s organs were donated, the autopsy was postponed for a time. But the he Oakland County medical examiner’s office has since made a statement that the child died of blunt force trauma to the head.

 
At first both parents were initially taken to the Oakland County Jail and interviewed, but Adien’s young mother was later released. Honer, on the other hand, did not fare as well. He was held on an unrelated warrant pertaining to retail fraud charges until his arraignment.

 
Honer has been arraigned on two charges, namely first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse, both of which are felonies under Michigan law and punishable by up to life in prison. He was formally charged in the Pontiac 50th District Court by Judge Ronda Fowlkes, who has scheduled his preliminary exam for March 16th.
