Jeremy Lee Perry, is the 21-year-old father of an infant girl who is recovering from injuries that police say are the result of an alleged beating. He was recently arraigned on charges of first degree child abuse.

 
According to Raisin Township Police Chief Kevin Grayer, one of Perry’s relatives contacted police seeking help after the 3-month-old child was injured at their home in Raisin Township on September 30th. “The baby was in his care at the time” Grayer explained, referring to the period of time in which the little girl was hurt.

 
Emergency medical personnel rushed the infant via ambulance to the ProMedica Bixby Hospital located in Adrian. However, the following day she was transferred by helicopter to University of Michigan Health System. Hospital officials have confirmed that the baby is currently a patient at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.

 
Very little information has been released regarding the physical abuse that the infant suffered, or the current state of her injuries. “There’s significant injuries.” Grayer said, but chose not to elaborate any further.

 
Perry was arraigned on a single count of first degree child abuse which is defined by Michigan law as a person “knowingly or intentionally causes serious physical or serious mental harm to a child.” It is a felony that is punishable by up to life in prison.

 
The arraignment was conducted via video feed from the Lenawee County Jail. Perry is currently being held on a bond of $1 million. He is scheduled to appear before Lenawee County District Judge James E. Sheridan for a preliminary hearing on October 20th.

 
According to police, the investigation is still underway. Medical information is being accumulated and Child Protective Services workers are providing assistance during this time.
