Murder Charges For Mom Whose Son Died of Abuse

Police were called to a hospital in Flint recently, where a 4-year-old boy named Jordyn Mathena, was unresponsive, with burns all over his body. His mom had apparently found him in the shower, unconscious, and taken him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. But what shocked officers was not the fact that the boy had died, but rather, what his mother admitted them about what she had done to him earlier.

According to police records, 33-year-old Jamia Robinson told responding officers that she had been so upset with her son’s behavior earlier that morning, that her head had “gone all puffy” and she had pushed him as he stepped into the bathtub. She says that she heard a sound as he fell, was wasn’t sure if it was impact with his face, or his head, that caused it. She then left him in the bathtub, and went to the store.

Flint police Sgt. Brett Small provided testimony in the Genesee County District Court just days ago. He told District Judge William H. Crawford II that Robinson had admitted to officers that she had caused the injuries to Jordyn. The boy had numerous burns on his body, inconsistent with a hot shower. The burns were located on his face, neck, genitals, hips, thighs, legs and the right side of his torso..

CPS reports reveal that Robinson had brought Jordyn into the hospital earlier that day because she was worried about his behavior. However, medical staff said that they had no psychiatric concerns regarding Jordyn’s behavior, and sent the boy home with his mother. It was allegedly after this incident that Robinson pushed him into the bathtub.

Later that day, at about 5:30pm, Robinson returned to the hospital with her unresponsive son wrapped in blankets. She is alleged to have told officers at the hospital that at that point, she just didn’t care anymore. CPS has already filed a petition to remove Robinson’s other seven children from her custody and terminate her parental rights.

Robinson allegedly has a substantial history with CPS in Michigan, and has warrants out for her arrest in Tennessee. Sources say that she has a substantiated history of physical child abuse. Court records show that Jordyn suffered a broken nose, severe burns, and head trauma before his death. Robinson has been charged with child abuse and murder.
